Grandiose plans were drawn up by the Planning Committee and Core Team of Priests and Past Pupils, who started planning for the Diamond Jubilee (DJ60) Celebrations after our first meeting in Don Bosco Lonavla (DBL) on 16th August 2019 when the idea was mooted in the meeting of Past Pupils.
Then just 6 Past Pupils met in June 2020 online as then we were in different cities and countries and the pandemic was on. We discussed the broad spectrum of the celebrations. It only bore fruit when we asked on the social media volunteers to take part in the Planning Committee to celebrate the DJ60 milestone of our Alma Mater.
We had formed 6 teams of Events Management, Marketing, Sponsorship and Advertising, Finance and Legal, Record Management, and IT and & Tech teams. This seemed to an effective method as the planning gathered momentum especially when leaders were elected for each of the above. The Core Team was formed with the leaders of each committee, Frs. Rector, Administrator and Principal and 2 ex-officio members.
Logo of DJ60 was launched on 8th December 2020 on YouT ube with fanfare.
The planning moved into a slow pace, as all things did, with the pandemic. Five members of the house team got infected and two had to be hospitalised. Relatives of two confreres got infected and mother of a confrere left for our heavenly abode and another’s mother and sister had to be hospitalised. Hence, we just met in July 2021 to take stock of our plans for our celebrations of the Diamond Jubilee.
We have decided to tone down our celebrations due to three reasons: a] The pandemic is still on and we are expecting a third wave. People have suffered huge losses in terms of family members and financially too. b] The institute is also facing a similar situation and have appealed to our benefactors to support it in this time of need. c] Lonavla is a tourist destination and jobs are majorly dependent on this industry and hospitality has been the worst affected in this pandemic. As having a celebration at this time is also not possible
The plan now for the moderated celebration of DJ60 will be the inaugural Mass and Prayer service on 15th August 2021 followed by the special DJ60 anthem composed especially for this occasion. The launch of the website of our aspirantate.
We conclude our celebrations on 12th June 2022 exactly on the day when we started our school 60 years ago. We can decide later, other concrete activities that will help to improve our country from the pandemic and its effects. Don Bosco schools are known to take the lead in these programmes.
